Frequently Asked Questions

What is travel soccer?

Travel Soccer is devoted to player and team development in a more competitive environment than intramural or recreational soccer. As players become more skilled, desire a more competitive soccer environment, and become willing to commit greater time to training, the Travel program exists for them as a higher level athletic experience. Players are selected for the team through a tryout process in the spring for the upcoming school year.

Do we have to tryout now?

To be considered for one of next year’s travel teams, you do need to tryout now.

What happens at tryouts?

The player and parent will check in at registration and then the player will be sorted into his or her respective age group. Each group will go through a series of stations where each player will be evaluated by coaches on his or her skill and ability. Stations include skills like dribbling, shooting, and scrimmaging.

How are players selected for a team?

Players are selected for the team based on the confidential ratings of coaches from each station. The top rated players are selected for the team with the respective coordinator and head coach finalizing the roster.

How will I be notified if my child makes a team and what happens after that?

Players selected for the team will receive an invitation to accept a position on the team. We ask that you accept the invitation within 5 days.

What can I expect with travel soccer?

Travel soccer is competitive but is primarily focused on player development. Our coaches are committed to teach each player and improving his or her soccer skills. Travel teams practice twice a week and then play games on the weekends. As the name implies, teams will travel for away games to neighboring communities and counties. Seasons have 8 regular games and the team will typically play in a tournament in the fall and spring. Most travel teams play a fall season, spring season, and indoor (winter) session. Players accepting positions on a team are generally expected to play in both the fall and spring seasons (indoor is recommended). We appreciate that children may be involved in other activities besides soccer. If you have a concern about the commitment please discuss it with the travel team coach.

What if my child doesn’t get selected for a travel team?

If your child is not selected for a travel team this year, we encourage them to play on one of our recreational teams, continue to develop their skills, and come back to tryouts next year.
