FAQs

Who may play soccer for the club?

Children ages 5 and up at all skill levels can participate in soccer club programs. Our mission is to serve the Manheim Central School District. (residency requirements can be waived by Executive Board action on an individual basis)

How do I register my child to play?

Registration occurs every June for the fall season, then in January for the spring season. Players may register online, or attend one of the site based registration events. Check the website for dates, times and locations. Late registration is available at coordinators discretion based on available slots on teams.

Where does the registration money go?

Manheim Soccer Club is a non-profit organization. Funds collected at registration are used to support our programs. The following are some of the costs we incur:

  • t-shirt for each player (one per year)
  • equipment such as balls, first-aid, nets, line paint
  • grass mowing and field maintenance
  • website fees
  • printing and paper supplies
  • referee fees
  • insurance fees
  • tournament fees
  • coach training

How are players assigned to teams?

Coordinators for each age group in the intramural program place players on a team. Coordinators will attempt to evenly distribute players based on skill level and sex. Players assigned to a team in the fall will remain on that team for the spring.

In the recreational program coordinators will also distribute skill levels to balance the teams. Coaches sometimes have the options of registering for different programs within the recreation league, such as 6V6, 8V8, or 11V11. Players in the recreation program sometimes stay with the same coach for several seasons.

The LANCO players are placed on a team consistent with their age level if eligible following try-outs. These players are asked to commit to at least one year, and often stay together as a team as they move up in age.

When will I be notified about what team my child is assigned?

Coaches will contact the players assigned to their team a few weeks before practice is to begin. This is usually about the beginning of August for fall soccer, and the middle of March for spring soccer. If ever there are questions, please feel free to contact the coordinator for the program the player is registered.

What kind of training do the coaches receive?

Coaches are required to attend an organizational meeting at the beginning of each season. They are also encouraged to attend training sessions run throughout the year by the soccer club. MSC also encourages and offers financial support for coaches to complete training provided through EPYSA. MSC provides coaches with reference material periodically to aid in planning practice activities and training techniques.

What equipment does my child need?

Players are required to wear their team shirt, shin guards covered by long socks, and athletic shorts or pants. Players may wear either soccer cleats or sneakers. LANCO teams will also purchase a team uniform, at the expense of each player. Players are encouraged to bring their own soccer ball to practice when possible. Check with coach to confirm ball size.

May my child play up or down an age level?

Players will be assigned a team at the appropriate age level. MSC believes this is in the best interest of the player in terms of confidence and skill development. Any requests to assign a player to a different age group must be submitted in writing to the Executive Board for approval on a case by case basis.

What can I do if my child is having a problem?

Parents are first encouraged to speak individually with the child’s coach regarding any problem at practice or games. If this is not adequate, parents may also contact the coordinator for the program their child in assigned. Issues may also be brought to the attention of any board member.

What do I do if I have a question or concern?

Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child’s participation by attending practices, games, and talking to the coach regarding any questions or concerns. Parents may also contact any board member regarding questions or concerns. Phone numbers and e-mail addresses are listed on the website. Parents are also encouraged to take an active role in the club by attending board meetings, and volunteering in some aspect of the club’s operations.

Is there any financial assistance available for families?

Sibling discounts and fundraising options are provided in an attempt to keep costs down for families. If there is a financial situation that makes it difficult for a player to register for a soccer program, the family may submit a request for aid in writing to the Executive Board. Assistance may be available on a case by case basis.
